The 15th-century palace of the Shirvanshah dynasty — UNESCO heritage, carved stone and medieval quiet at the heart of the Old City. The collection is built for unhurried viewing: each hall tells its own story and introduces one more layer of Azerbaijani culture.
Alongside the permanent exhibition there are temporary shows, guided tours and educational programmes for children. Guided visits can be booked in advance; check the photography rules at the entrance.
Palace of the Shirvanshahs is in Baku at İçərişəhər, Saray döngəsi 76. Entry is inexpensive (level ₼). Many museums close on Mondays — check opening hours before you go, and allow one to two hours for a full visit.
