National history inside oil baron Taghiyev’s mansion: rich collections and the interiors of 19th-century Baku’s bourgeoisie. The collection is built for unhurried viewing: each hall tells its own story and introduces one more layer of Azerbaijani culture.
Alongside the permanent exhibition there are temporary shows, guided tours and educational programmes for children. Guided visits can be booked in advance; check the photography rules at the entrance.
National Museum of History of Azerbaijan is in Baku at Hacı Zeynalabdin Tağıyev küçəsi 4. Entry is inexpensive (level ₼). Many museums close on Mondays — check opening hours before you go, and allow one to two hours for a full visit.
